Julia Brigdale is a Hampshire based writer focussing on nature and a sense of place.
Somewhere In-between; what is it about?
Well, I have borrowed the title from a long-form piece of creative non-fiction I have been working on for some years, which forged its name from the real journey it traces, on foot, in-between the home of my up-bringing in Kent and the home of my paternal grandparents in Somerset.
The notion however, became so much more than the route I followed…
Fixed in and traced upon the landscape, filling the space between a point of departure and that of arrival, the path I walked quickly came to signify, to me, the distance in time from the now, back into memory, and also the liminal space between conscious thought, empirical fact, and the mystical, emotional and visceral experience of being in ‘place’.
It now feels that all of my writing is about exploring that in-between space, in its many forms.
This website therefore, is a platform for that investigation, somewhere I can place my thoughts and discoveries and share my findings along the way.
A collection of published work and older pieces with links, where applicable, to the journal or publication where the piece appears.
A mini-blog of jottings and sometimes longer experimental pieces, which are new and exclusive to the site.
A page with commentary on what I’m reading, for my thoughts on just that.
